Using Momentum

I'm a BIG girl. There is NO denying it. It didn't happen over night so it won't go away over night. I can understand that.

My sister is getting married in October. There will be hundreds of pictures taken. I don't want to be one of those people who sees the backside of an unfamiliar person wearing the same dress that they did... and realizing that it's them. Because, yep, I've done that before.

So I joined a gym in January. I honestly enjoy going.
It's like my own little escape. I get to read what I want and listen to what I want.

For 6 months, I went there 3 or more times per week never seeing any visual results. I changed a few eating habits but nothing changed.
That's when I would hear the following....

"Oh but you are building muscle." - Uh no, I take my measurements.

"Well I can see a difference." - Uh no you can't but thanks for being nice.

"But muscle weighs more than fat." - Seriously? People still try to make themselves believe that??

As much as people try to help and be supportive, the numbers don't lie. They just can't.

So I had to take a different course, which usually means more money but ugh that's not what this post is about. I'm still going to the gym but I needed something more.

8 weeks ago I joined Weight Watchers. We've all seen the commercials (alot fewer since Tivo & the DVR). Pay us to put you on a scale, sit in a chair and listen to people bitch and whine about why they "just can't", and then do math everyday.

And you know what!! It's the best $40 I spend each month. I'll be damned if it doesn't work!

I've lost 12.8 POUNDS and 10.25 INCHES. in 8 weeks!! The last time I lost that amount of weight or inches was when they literally cut my children from my belly.

I've had to change meetings only once. I was so distracted by one of the members who ran than meeting. Between the "WalmartSSS" mentionings and the train of thought interruptions of "and what have you" throughout the meeting, I honestly couldn't listen to what the meeting was about. So instead of abandoning the meetings all together I found another time that worked for me.

It's much easier to stay on track when you only have 1 number to worry about instead of 3 or 4 or 5. Each food has a point value. You only have so many points for the day. When all you do is subtract 2, 4, 8, or 10 points per item.... well it's not rocket science people.

I didn't want to post about this earlier in case it was something else that I quit doing. But like the gym I enjoy it AND I'm seeing results!!

Have you ever tried Weight Watchers??

Bad Juggling Act

Why do we (as a society) feel the need to do everything... all at the same time? Do we REALLY need to have something to do at every waking moment? Will we ever remember all these objectives and how hard we tried to make them a reality? Yeah probably not. So it's time to slow down.

I guess I've just had too much on my plate. Not that I can take anything off. I just add another plate.

My problem is that when I do this, something always fall off. Then it's too late to brush it off and start over. The 5 second rule doesn't apply here.
So what has fallen off you wonder? Let's see... (in no specific order) (to name a few)
my checkbook
my coupon binder
my relationships with family and friends
my candle business
my flowerbeds

Those are pretty hefty on a plate regardless but when they fall off everything gets way too off balance. I've slowly been able to fix a few things as much as I can at the moment. And of course I started with the easiest ones.

My candle business is a non-issue now. I didn't meet my minimums so I lost my downline. No big loss I wasn't planning on being that active in the Fall anyway. It's just really hard for me to ask someone, whose husbands may not have a job or one for much longer, to spend $20 on a candle just so I can make a few bucks. And as far as trying to get them to sign up and "only pay $?? to own their own business" is not fair either. Yes they may have better luck than I did but I'm not interested.

My flowerbeds suffered for a while with no rain but they are back in bloom and the weeds are minimal. It was quite embarrassing for a while. A little snip here and there did wonders!
My binder is organized and up to date as of yesterday. I cut over $40 off my receipt at Target yesterday! And the only non-food item was pull-ups for Lil B.

My checkbook, well that will have to be a work in progress. They won't like me pulling so tight on the reins but they'll have to get over it. I'll make it up to them for Christmas.

My family and friends... For those of you who read this, I'm sorry I've been so vacant recently. I honestly don't mean to be. Right now I just can't be everyone's everything. You know that J and the kids come first and those are the relationships I really have to worry about right now. I'm not purposefully avoiding anyone. I'm just not reaching out. I don't need a call or a pep talk. I just need to get reorganized and settled.

Now I can plaster on a smile with the best of them but I'd just rather not. I'm tired of crying at the drop of a hat just because someone asks me if I'm ok or if something is wrong. I have alot to do and not a whole lot of that I want to do.

Ever feel like that??

Things I Love Thursday

This is my first Things I Love Thursday. I really like this idea - mainly because I have too many "things I don't like" partial posts. I don't like always being negative but I always end up there in the end. So maybe this will help... and someone kick me if I get negative OK??

Things I Love!... that happened today....

When Walker says "I just want to sweet you Momma"... right after he gets caught doing something he knows he shouldn't. He then walks up and rubs my arm with this oh so guilty grin.

How do you argue with that?? I always lose this battle. He walks up giggling and smiling JUST so I'll start laughing too.

Yes I have some idea of what I'm in for when he's 15.

If he's anything like his Dad... I'm in trouble!!!

What did he get caught doing this time you ask. Weeeeeeell....

He found a pair of scissors in his room. Not sure how they got there yet. My kids are from the school of Admit Nothing.

So did he make a masterpiece of art with his new found Nip/Tuck skills??

You tell me...

Don't recognize it??

It usually looks much better on say...

A Toddler Mattress!!!

His sister's mattress!!

An Interior Designer in the making?? His father would surely faint.
A little boy destroying his sister's... well anything?? I think that would fit much better.

So what should I do?? What can I do??

Yes besides take them away. And tell him that it wasn't very nice.

How do you punish a 4 year old when he starts to show destructive behavior?? And all you can do is laugh because 1-he's very proud of himself and 2-he just wants to "sweet you."

So here is my Things I love Thursday post... wanna see more??
Check them out here.

Positive(ly wrong) Lyrics

Walker was "singing" with Rock Band earlier today.

He chose the Yeah Yeah Yeah's song Maps.

His version of the chorus...

Oh They They They
Oh They They They...

They all love you like I love you.
They all love you like I love you.

Laughs Laughs Laughs Laughs
Oh They

I love my kid!!

His version of Nirvana is even better....

Sure Sure

Living vicariously through a 16 year old girl via a Vampire Saga has been both good and bad.

The Twilight Saga was initially written as Young Adult fiction by Stephanie Meyer. Well it didn't take very long for many woman, who do not fall into that category, to become completely, compulsively, and passionately obsessed about this fantasy world.

Yeah me too.
I know. I know. I know.

I have always loved vampire novels and shows. Interview With a Vampire was one of my favorite books in high school. I preferred Angel over Buffy though... and now I watch Bones too. Not about vampires I know but he's still pretty great to look at and it's very well written.

So I knew that Twilight was coming to the theater last November and I much rather read the book first if I want to watch the movie. With a 10 hour road trip ahead of me over the Thanksgiving holiday, I grabbed what I thought would be a good read to pass the time. So Twilight it was. I really couldn't tell you how many times I zoned out on the drive to the Ozarks. I was really surprised that I got sucked in so quickly. Before Twilight I wasn't able to finish a book since I had Bennett Claire (who turned 2 in August). As much as I love to read I just had way to much to do... so I thought.

My FIL sure thought I had lost it and Jon was thrilled that I wasn't bitching about having to watch MORE football. I was flipping out over a book written for teenagers.
I couldn't tell them that a book written for teens was better than listening to them talk about NCAA teams, shotguns, whiskey, blah blah blah. I was over it. Time to escape

As cold as it was outside, sitting on the ground completely and utter captivated by the story of these fantasy creatures was exactly what I needed. The deeper I got into the story, the more I realized that I was sitting in the woods, in the mountains, in rainy and misty weather. Oh the irony. Yeah I know it sounds silly but I startle easy. So I closed the book and went for a ride, through the woods.
It wasn't long before I realize how secluded we were and I would need to get my hands on New Moon. I called the closest "big box" store (read HellMart/Wally World) only to find out that New Moon was the only one they DIDN'T have. grrrr
So I called the next closest, then the next, and yet another. Jon and his dad thought it was pretty funny that I was working this hard to find "just a book." They all told me the same thing.
I called the 4 closest stores. The drive time ranged from 30 mins (closest) to almost 2 hours. Yeah that wasn't gonna happen.
The other bookstores in the area.... Well let's just say that a vampire book would not have been anywhere near their order forms much less on their shelves. We were in the Bible Belt/Folk Life Central ya know.
And all that hard work and spazing out for nothing. We ended up being tourists more than I thought so I didn't have as much time to read as I thought I would.
We were 20 minutes from home when I finished. Since nothing was open at 2 am, I waited until we got some sleep and went out and bought the other 3.
I was not going to be in that position again!

Now I can't stop reading... Future post on my FAV new books.... Non-fiction (well mostly) and side splittingly (not a word, yes I know) hilarious!!!

Coaxed Out of Inhibition

I love to people watch. Call it nosey if you will but I enjoy it. Before I had kids there was a bar near my hometown that I could sit and watch people all night and be utterly amazed.

This morning, when we were waiting for the childcare room to open at the gym, a woman drove into the parking lot on her cell phone. Talking a mile a minute and her non-driving hand waving around as if her wrist was dislocated. I couldn't look away. Seriously!

People amaze me sometimes. Driving down the road or in a parking lot you would swear that some people don't realize that you can see them. Between the singing, eating, screaming at their kids, or picking their noses (don't kid yourself! you aren't fooling anyone with that one!)... sitting in a vehicle allows people to let their guard down.

It's not that they aren't aware of their surroundings. They feel safe behind the glass and enclosed in metal (or fiberglass). So is it the safety or is it that they feel that they are in their own world.... or do they just not give a ??? (Yes I curse like a sailor normally but this really doesn't need an expletive)
I know when I'm driving and the kids and I are singing that people look and giggle but I also do that in the grocery store... and I really don't care/mind that they are laughing. I'm having fun with my kids and that's what matters right?

But back to the inhibition or really the lack of...
The combination of a cellphone and a vehicle are pretty equal to a few stiff drinks when it comes to their lack of restraint. I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I'm just amazed at how quickly it can happen.
Most people wouldn't act the same way if they were on their phone walking through, say, the mall.... Yes I know that some people have no tact and will scream and curse while on their phone in public, this is totally different.

What are the little things that people do that amaze you??

Weekly Menu Plan March 23-29

It is so much easier for me to shop when I know what we are eating... and I spend alot less money this way as well.

To do this I really try to make out my menu for the week. Once I comb through various magazines that come to my door and a few of the other fabulous bloggers who post their menus, I get the "OK" from the people who are forced privileged to eat what I cook each week. I only plan dinners. This is because I stay home with my 2 youngest and I don't cook all day! I don't mind cooking on the weekends. Our breakfasts usually consist of cereal, bagels, fruits, and/or granola bars. Lunch isn't much different, if we are home. Sandwiches or leftovers are par for the course.

If you'd like tips and helpful printouts so that you can start menu planning as well, check out these sites:
Menu Planning Central
Menus 4 Mom
Organizing Junkie - Menu Planning Monday

So here goes my list:

Monday
Meatloaf w/Mozzarella, Mushrooms & Pepperoni (All You)

Tuesday
Chicken, Chili & Cheese Enchiladas (All You)

Wednesday
Crispy Parmesan Baked Chicken Breasts (adapted from a bag of Tilapia)

Thursday
Crock Pot Beef Stew (McCormick packet)

Friday
Tuna Casserole (Amalie is cooking)

Saturday
Walker's Birthday!! He picks.

Sunday
Walker's Party - Kart Ranch Pizza

Great part about this menu is that I only have to go to the store for 1 (ONE!!) thing, a rotisserie chicken for the enchiladas!! But I could always bake one myself..... Albertson's is just so much easier.

So what are you cooking this week?? Any healthy cheap new recipes you've found lately??

Don't forget to check out the other menu planners listed above.

Thanks for stopping by!!

Edit: A very helpful reader suggested I post my recipes. Thank you so much! I will def do that next week.

The battle Ensues

The war with thy self?

The battle from within?

The constant bickering in my brain about why I can't seem to loose weight!!!

I started at a new gym early in January. My sister (size 6 mind you) is getting married in October. What better reason to shed the luggage than that right?

Well it's now almost the end of March and not even so much as a small wallet has fallen off as I walk/run on the treadmill.

My measurements have not changed.

The scale hasn't budged.

My clothes don't fit any differently.

And my doc says all the compartments in my baggage are in healthy working order.

WTF

I've changed the way I eat.

Go to the gym at least 3 times a week.

And I log my food and exercise on Sparkpeople.

I even cook 2 different meals some nights. 1 for me and 1 for the rest of my family. And that is getting old!

I finally talked to the owner of the gym. So what does she tell me???

I need to EAT more.
Do what?? That makes no sense to me so I laugh. She then explains it all to me (which I won't bore you with) and I kinda get it.
So I try.
And it works!! I was down 3 lbs at my next weigh in! Little happy dance!!
My measurements have gone down 3 inches total. I'm kinda excited my change purse fell out.
I have a long road ahead but this little carry on sure does help to keep me moving.

I'm sure I'll talk alot more about my weight loss journey so I hope you can stand it and keep reading.

Friday Fill-in #1

This is always a fun Meme. Try it out. It's like Madlibs without the prompts :D

1. I'm trying to stay on budget, I'm saving up for my sister's wedding, I want to go to her party in Vegas!

2. Why do I have more clothes to clean every time I turn around and have a magic fairy that comes to clean my house while I sleep at night.

3. How does this "get your ass moving" thing work, anyway?

4. Every morning, I put my fake wedding ring on my left hand and convince myself it's ok.... b/c we aren't legally married

5. I consider myself lucky because blood results all came back great and I'm not sick at all.

6. One day we’ll see ____. There is just too much unknown for me to answer this one.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to playing Wii with the kids, tomorrow my plans include visiting with my sister while she's in town & getting my spring garden ready and Sunday, I want to eat some great Sushi before the Jeff Dunham show!!!

I Want Wednesday #1

This is a pretty cool idea so I thought I'd give it a shot.

The question this week is:

What do you want to be named after you and what do you want it to be called?

I have always wanted to create a new flower. My plan was to go to Grad school for Horticulture and change the color of a flower. Sounds easy right?? Well to make it the hue I wanted would have taken a very long time. I still plan on going to Grad school one day and I hope that my idea has not already happened by then.
I didn't really want it named after me because that would have been a little confusing. So I planned to name it after my daughter, who is named after my Great-grandmother, Amalie.

Interested in more "I want..." check out this blog.

Crisis of Thought

We are hunters and gatherers, right?
So if we eat meat then we must kill the animal to be able to eat that meat?

Does it matter if this animal is pregnant? Does it really matter?

We went to a deer farm this weekend. This was our second trip there with my FIL and a few friends. It's a wonderfully peaceful place. You are guaranteed a kill when you go. They have a great cabin with everything you need to enjoy yourself and not sleep in a tent.
My oldest daughter went with JAH to the blind this time. She wanted to see what it was all about and maybe practice her aim so that she would be able to hunt next time we go. We aren't avid wild game hunters. I mostly hunt down a good bargain in my favorite stores and that's where it usually ends.
The first time they went out the only animals they saw were off limits because of the timing of the season, so they came back empty handed. Last night trip, they returned with a beautiful doe. She seemed very healthy as far as muscle volume goes. As they were cleaning her up (yes cutting her up) an odd thought came to mind.
A deer doesn't have 2 stomachs, right??
The more I looked at it the more I wondered what part of the anatomy this could be. I'm no Meredith Grey.
But I figured it out. I asked the guide if she was pregnant.
He turned to me with a surprisingly solemn face and just shook his head. I didn't ask any other questions.

So here I am, not able to process this image in my head and the facts surrounding it.
I'm not a vegetarian but I think this bothers me. JAH had no idea that she was pregnant. I don't know if he would have shot her anyway though. I won't ask him that.
I know it's not hte first time it's been done and it won't be the last.

But am I ok with the fact that he did it?
Can I sit there and enjoy a meal knowing this is what happened?

I'm not sure I can.

It's Nice to Meet You

So what is it with guys in the oilfield and not acknowledging a woman standing there while others are being introduced???
I've asked JAH this a few times and he says he doesn't know. Bullshit! When a man walks up to a group of people and starts to introduce himself, shaking hands and making eye contact with each MAN I often get over looked. And it really annoys the crap out of me!!
Now I'm not a small woman and I'm certainly not a quiet person in any way. So why am I overlooked and ignored? I don't know and I don't get it. I may not be the person you are trying to sell your products too but you know who has to listen to me bitch about getting ignored by the new sales guy?? YOUR customer!! And of course all the guys he works with.
NOTE to males: Ignoring the fat girl is a BIG... HUGE mistake!!
I'm human and JUST as important as any man you will meet. You never know who will be running a company in the days to come. It could be me! And trust me, there are more salesman in this industry. Don't make me thrown emotion into a business decision.

Introduce yourself. If you don't know who I'm "with" then ask. Don't assume I'll think you are hitting on me. You're not smart enough to pull that off bud.

The Visitor - Day 2

Some days it just SUCKS to be a female. Oh shut up you know it's true too.

Yes I know we have many charms and advantages but DAMN IT the scales are just not balanced enough. I'm not talking about the "big picture" here... just bodily functions.

So today is day two of the dreadful ever recurring monthly visit. It's always my very worst day. Tomorrow I will feel sorry for the kids.... tomorrow.

Before my 3rd child was born my cycles were easy, irregular, a little light cramping, and rarely lasted more than 5 days. Loved it. Well not loved but I can appreciate it now. They say old age does that to a person. Some may not have thought it would happen at 30.

Now she's 2 and put in a field goal effort to a pocket of hormones while she was in there. No I'm not saying it's her fault (anymore) but I could just about scream. Well I usually do on day 2.
I scream at the dog because she won't move out of my way.
I scream at the teenage on the phone while she's driving and smoking.
I scream at the 18 wheeler who pulls out in front of me when there is NO ONE coming behind me for a mile. Seriously could he not have waited 10 seconds for me to pass him.
As you can see I scream and those were just out loud. I screams in my head are much more frequent... and more violent.
The changes in the last 2 years have been slow coming.
I'm actually regular, which is a some what welcomed addition to the list.
My cramps remind me of the small amount of labor I went through with my first child.
I should buy stock in Tampax just to make sure Day 2 is covered. Yes even in this economy.
I can't buy junk food for the family near Day 2 because I WILL eat it ALL.
If JAH (just about husband, whole other post, keep reading) even so much as touches my thigh with his hand he'll lose a finger or 2.

But as Day 2 winds down, the Midol wears off, and the Tylenol PM kicks in this picture makes me laugh that Day 2 is over. Day 3 in comparison is as if I was a man.

Top 10 Reasons WHY I'm doing this

Top 10 Reasons why I started this blog

10. I need a place to vent.

9. The conversations in my head just aren't cutting it anymore.

8. I want a place to talk about myself without getting interrupted or hear "Oh well guess what happened to ME."

7. I need a place to scream that won't scare my kids away.

6. The other one wasn't interesting enough.

5. My sister's (Hi Atie!) push from 2 months ago finally won.

4. I think I'm funny sometimes.

3. I need a place to vent, gush, scream, brag and whine about my life.

2. Seeing my thoughts in "writing" has always helped me.

1. There's no reason I shouldn't.

Well it may not be the best list but it's all true. Enjoy.
